Ice-T to host VH1 Hip-Hop Honors
This year's VH1 Hip-Hop Honors will be just one part of a six-day celebration in New York City. Mayor Michael Bloomberg joined Ice-T and Russell Simmons on Thursday to announce the city's "Hip-Hop Honors Week" to coincide with the third edition of VH1's awards show in October. "Hip-hop music was born right here in our city," said Mayor Bloomberg. "During our first ever 'VH1 Hip-Hop Honors Week' New Yorkers will have exciting new opportunities to celebrate an art form that has influenced generations and reached the farthest corners of the world. For the past two years, VH1 has paid tribute to hip-hop's original pioneers through 'Hip-Hop Honors.' They've chosen New York City as a host and partner in that tribute and we're proud to welcome them back." The awards special, which honors hip-hop's pioneers, has called New York City home since its inception. This year's honorees include Rakim, Wu-Tang Clan, Afrika Bambaataa, MC Lyte, Beastie Boys and Eazy-E. Ice-T will serve as this year's host. "Hip-Hop Honors Week" kicks off Oct. 12 and ends with the show on Oct. 17. Latest news...
