T.I. is 'King' of the charts
T.I. will make a triumphant No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart with his latest release, King. T.I. cleared the half-million mark in the album's first week, checking in with a total of 521,702, according to SoundScan. The numbers make King the biggest debut so far in 2006. In addition to its No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200, King also owns the top spots on Billboard's R&B/hip-hop albums chart, rap albums chart, digital albums chart and on iTunes. T.I. joins an elite list of MCs that have moved more than 500,000 units in the first week, including Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Nelly, Eminem and Kanye West. It also marks the biggest first-week sales for an Atlantic artist in the 15-year history of the SoundScan retail tracking system. T.I. not only is ranking high on the music charts, but at the box office as well. His new movie, "ATL," debuted at No. 3 with $12.5 million in ticket sales, clobbering heavily hyped competition like Sharon Stone's "Basic Instinct 2." Will Smith, who knows a thing or two about making the jump from rapping to acting and also served as one of the producers of "ATL," had high praise for T.I. and his acting debut. "T.I. is a gifted talent with the rare ability to move from music to film effortlessly," Smith said. "His natural charm and instinct for the camera will serve him well as he journeys toward a great career in film." Latest news...
