Bouncer questioned in death of Proof
A cousin of the man allegedly shot by Proof before the D12 MC was shot and killed was questioned by Detroit police Wednesday night. Investigators think Proof was shot after he pistol-whipped and shot Keith Bender at the CCC club on Eight Mile Road more than two hours after it closed. Bender's cousin, Mario Ethridge, who is a bouncer at the club, spoke to investigators Wednesday night. "He came in because the Detroit Police Department asked him to," Ethridge's attorney, Randall Upshaw, told WXYZ-TV. "Does that sound like a murderer? The understanding of every witness we've spoken to is that Proof pulled out a weapon. Proof shot Keith in the face, and Keith was unarmed." Police Sgt. Eren Stephens told the Detroit Free Press that Proof's shooter will not be charged if that person was protecting himself or someone else. Proof, whose real name was Deshaun Holton, was shot three times in the head and chest, according to the Wayne County medical examiner's office. He served as Eminem's best man in his second marriage to Kim Mathers in January. Snoop Dogg, one of the few big names to attend the MTV Australia Music Awards, took time out to speak about Proof. "He was a part of the hip-hop family," Snoop told Australia's 7 News. "We can't stop it. We try to. We try to be as positive as we can and do good things with our lives. I just know that every time somebody gets killed in hip-hop we should look at it as a tragedy. There's nothing we can do to stop it as hip-hop artists but be who we are and continue to make our good music." The trip overseas turned out to be worth it for Snoop. His "Drop It Like It's Hot" took home the award for best hip-hop video. Latest news...
