The Best of 2009
It was so tempting to hand best album to Kanye West's 808s and Heartbreak. It would have been a first for The 411 Online to award an album that had not been given our 5-star $50 rating. Kanye jumped years into the future and brought back what can only be described as the logical conclusion to the auto-tune trend. And then Jay-Z promptly stomped all over the era with "D.O.A." (Not to mention KRS-One and Buckshot's "Robot.") The peak, then sudden death. It was clean. Quick. And it absolutely defined 2009. But in the end, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...Pt. II could not be denied. Winner of The 411 Online's best album in 1995, Raekwon took on Jay-Z head-to-head and won the battle of sequels by staying true to the namesake.
